How To Apply Hard Wax

Here we show you how to apply hard wax! If you want more information on how to apply hard wax properly you can check out our corresponding blog post for more info:

Though there are many factors to keep in mind when it comes to applying a wax strip, here’s my Top 5!

HK’s 5 key points for a successful wax session when applying hard wax are as follows:
1. Using proper temperature and high quality wax.
2. Making sure you prep the skin correctly.
3. Having the right application of the wax strip.
4. Removing the wax quickly.
5. Always using post wax care products after each appointment.

Skipping any of these steps will result in the wax service to not be successful. It’s important to use a high quality hard wax so the wax doesn’t break upon removal. However, Mermaid Wax Signature Series will NOT break, it is so elastic it’s great for beginners so you don’t have to rush. If this is all new to you using a high quality wax is one way to make things A LOT easier on yourself.

Applying proper pressure to the skin is required so the wax can adhere to the base of the hair follicle. Not pushing down hard enough can cause the hair to snap instead of being pulled from the root.

You also want to make sure you prep the area. This means to cleanse the skin of any oils, make up, sweat or dirt. Any of those things can not allow the wax to adhere to the hair.

When applying the wax strip, make a “lip” at the end, have clean edges and use enough wax. We go into detail the correct way to apply a wax strip so you get the perfect result each time!

We use a major brands blue film hard wax in this video. We just recently switched to our own Mermaid Wax, it’s the best ever.

I have a question, when you did the second one "clean up stripe" you still pull it off against the hair growth, just applying it the other way?

  5. Prissylil Missy on October 16, 2020 at 8:43 pm

Very helpful definitely appreciate this video. I plan to order your wax as well as a better wax warmer but in the meantime, are there any store bought hard waxes you’d recommend?

Hi! I obtained my state esthetician’s license years ago now…however, I never worked as an esthetician…my license DID get me a couple of jobs however as a clinic manager…but I’m not that anymore either. Anyhoo! I didn’t get a whole lot of waxing experience in school. Not much at all! Like almost none…I had done maybe 3 people tops! So I have always been so gun shy when it comes to waxing…recently, I find myself knee deep in divorce…and have busied myself with gardening and purchased a clean and easy wax warmer and a hard wax and a soft wax…although its Summer, I still decided to let all my hairs grow! Going to start practicing on myself and then ask friends, my daughter in law and my bosses wife if I can practice on them. Your videos are so helpful! Like incredibly helpful! I am writing to tell you Thank You!!
Many blessings to you and your family!
    Michelle

Love these videos, they are super helpful! I’ve been doing Brazilian waxes at home for 6 months now and am having trouble with a lot of ingrown hairs that I cannot get rid of and I didn’t have them when I used to shave. I’m not sure which part of the waxing process I’m doing wrong that’s causing them! Would love to talk with you to figure it out.

Hi, my new to waxing and I was hoping if you could do a review on the wax kit I just brought. It’s called silky skin, I’m just curious to see if it’s good quality wax.

  10. Kristen Brown on October 16, 2020 at 8:47 pm

How do you know when hard wax is ready to be removed from skin? What texture I guess I’m asking about? I was taught to long it cracks and to soon well obviously comes off as taffy. So when do you feel it is ready?

  12. Ciara Fitzgerald on October 16, 2020 at 8:48 pm

Great video! Very educational, I have a question if you don’t mind (not crtitising in any way just asking) I was thought when applying hard wax to apply it against the hair growth and take it off against the hair growth also, does this depend on the brand of wax you use? x

Thank you for this.. I bought an $18 wax heater w/ 3 100g hard wax. I was so excited to use it but I’ve already wasted 100g and still no hair comes off my legs, it works on my armpit. I think either the wax or the heater is low quality or both??! 😭

Thank you for the tip and about the clean up strips too. I’ll look for a better hard wax

Can you just wash your legs with soap and warm water before waxing? Ofc, you’d pat your legs dry and wait a little before waxing.

How long do you wait until ripping the wax out. Like time wise. A few seconds? A minute?
