I would like to offer a bit more clarity on the oil thing, because unfortunately what you said Kelly is not entirely correct.

It’s important to really hammer in the distinction between moisture and hydration – and let’s not feel bad about getting it wrong, because everyone does all the time, including in product descriptions etc.

Moisture = oil; hydration = water.

So saying that "oils don’t moisturise, they don’t pull moisture in, you need a humectant to do that" is incorrect.

Oils moisturise pretty much exclusively and they are considered occlusives. Humectants draw in WATER (therefore HYDRATION) as you have somewhat correctly mentioned in your next tip. As such, humectants and oils perform entirely different tasks, which is why they are not interchangeable. Therefore first applying a humectant to hydrate the skin and then applying an occlusive oil on top to seal it in is the correct thing to do and will do exactly what you are looking for, because that lack of plumpness in the skin is often a result of dehydration.

Additionally, it isn’t all bad just doing oil alone. Yes, it won’t add more HYDRATION to the skin, but it will keep the hydration already present in your skin safely sealed in.

I hope I haven’t come across as pedantic, I’m just looking to provide more information, education and clarity. I’m happy to answer any questions if anyone has them.

Would you recommend spraying your face with an aerosolized water before applying the hyaluronic acid serum? (I have 2 of those water sprays in deluxe sample sizes and I’m not sure when/how to use them) Thanks!

  3. Marcie Frey on November 18, 2020 at 9:03 pm

Do you have a source for the claim that oils don’t moisturize? I’ve seen the distinction between moisture and hydration but that’s it

One thing to look out for on the essential oils front is when companies say that they have essential oils, but they are synthetic oils that they are describing to be essential. That’s where a lot of fragrances come from. I’m taking a lot of my knowledge from Hyram and I know his take on fragrances from synthetic oils, but not his take on essential oils in skincare. If someone knows what video that this is in please comment the link!!!

I use to have like 15 products for both morning and night; my skin was so irritated, but I could not understand why. Then I watched Skincare by Hyram and he completely changed my mindset about skincare (and fragrance!). Now my entire skincare routine only has like 7 products total (moisturizer, sunscreen, eye cream, a few serums, cleanser) and my skin is starting to clear up (still have a lot of acne scars to recover from though, but one step at a time!). Great tips, Kelly! Stay safe✨💛

    Thank you for this video!
I started to use the Hyaloronic Acid from The Ordinary and never felt a difference. But then I saw one of your videos and you were talking about this product and the proper use…. damn, I was so happy to finally use it correctly. Thanks to you!

I completely agree with about minimal skincare routine. When I started minimizing my skincare routine, I noticed my acne have reduced significantly.

  12. Taytay Queen on November 18, 2020 at 9:13 pm

Do you have a hair routine? Your hair is so thick and pretty!

  13. Ursula Hansen on November 18, 2020 at 9:13 pm

I appreciate thos a ton. So informative and needed. 😊 thank you

  14. Becky Morrow on November 18, 2020 at 9:13 pm

I tried the Ordinary aha/bha serum that looks like red blood. My husband came upstairs while I was had it on my face to check on me. Needless to say, he was concerned. It made my skin so smooth. I would not recommend for a beginner because it packs a punch. It certainly is cheaper than drunk elephant’s version. Save that coin.

  15. Abigail Sarafian on November 18, 2020 at 9:16 pm

Don’t feel bad if you didn’t know how to use hyaluronic acid. I legit thought it was "high luronic acid" as in, high levels of luronic acid. And I thought that for way too long🤣🤦‍♀️🤯

  16. Machaela Ailene on November 18, 2020 at 9:19 pm

I think I have a negative reaction to hyaluronic acid and I have dry skin. What would you recommend in place of that ingredient?

  17. nada reyene on November 18, 2020 at 9:20 pm

i would love even more skincare content!

  18. Becky Bertish on November 18, 2020 at 9:22 pm

I wonder if I can get away with just doing water in the morning.

  19. April Hernandez on November 18, 2020 at 9:23 pm

I have a skincare routine but I am not 1 to go to crazy with it. I ways assumed,.since my skin never breaks out and my skin eats everything I lay on it ice just figured ok, I’m good. I really need to pay attention to my skin and skincare, yikes

  20. KirstenRadanof on November 18, 2020 at 9:25 pm

Can you make a video about sunscreens? I know I need to use one every day, but I don’t know what to look for in one for my skin.

  21. SSS Yeebu on November 18, 2020 at 9:26 pm

Also try face yoga and face massage. I have a jade gua sha face message tool, do lymphatic drainage massage and face yoga, but not all of those in one day.

I’ve been trying to get more into skincare but it’s so overwhelming, there are soooo many different types of products! I’ve gotten a good l night routine but I literally don’t do anything in the morning, that’s my quarantine goal! Thanks for all the info it was all helpful and really interesting! 💕

  24. Kristine Lewis on November 18, 2020 at 9:28 pm

My all time favorite skincare secret: sleep with a humidifier on!! Talk about taking hyaluronic acid to the next level!!

  25. Tímea Cheipesh on November 18, 2020 at 9:31 pm

Tomorrow we’re starting Week 4 of quarantine here, and I’m starting Week 4 of no makeup! carzy! 😮 sometimes I miss the process but I’m glad I don’t have to remove it and it doesn’t rub onto my clothes 😅

  26. Zarina Emerson on November 18, 2020 at 9:33 pm

Less is definitely more. I’ve tried a lot of things in skincare and decided to settle for using a maximum of seven products. All that’s left is an oil cleanser (only when I wear makeup), water cleanser (when I think I haven’t sweated my sunscreen off, if I randomly get a pimple or if I’ve used my oil cleanser), chemical exfoliant (max once a week), moisturiser, facial oil (only during autumn and winter), sunscreen and lip balm. I tried a lot of different serums, essences and different exfoliants until I realised I was dumping my money down the drain because they were doing nothing.

  27. Leslie Ryalls on November 18, 2020 at 9:34 pm

    VERY helpful! Thank you 🙂

  28. Olivia Gordon on November 18, 2020 at 9:34 pm

Yes pls! I love skin care and makeup equally.

  29. Southern Yankee on November 18, 2020 at 9:35 pm

I recently started this method as well because I have dry skin and I think I was over cleansing. Same with our hair I used to have oily hair but now I have a thyroid issue and my hair is dry and it doesn’t need to be washed every day. It’s healthier when I wash it a 2-3 times a week and let the natural oils penetrate it.

Since quarantine I’ve broken out the greasy looking Shea butter and my skin is LOVING this routine. I’m also wearing 2 moisturizers and no makeup right now. My skin is so happy ❤️

your hair is so mesmerizing to look at

  35. Bailey Layne on November 18, 2020 at 9:41 pm

Preach! I think people are finally embracing the “less is more” approach to skincare. Just use what you need and get all that extra stuff out of the way!

  36. Ameera Karim on November 18, 2020 at 9:43 pm

I used to believe the oil thing for so long. What a mistake 🤦🏽‍♀️

  37. Shell Teresa on November 18, 2020 at 9:43 pm

I still put on makeup everyday. After I do all my crazy cleaning then I sit down to do it. It relaxes me to do makeup. Makeup has always been a stress reliever for me. I’ve always cared about skin care too. It’s nice to put on a face mask and just relax at nite.

  38. Naomi Gabriella on November 18, 2020 at 9:45 pm

Hmm I was taught oil does moisturise? Hydration= water, moisture= oil. That’s why you can have oily dehydrated skin, lack of water (dehydration) VS lack of oil (dryness).

  39. Jen Jen on November 18, 2020 at 9:47 pm

Not to long ago, someone told me that u arent supposed to dampen your skin before applying your cleanser. Apparently you dilute the concentrate or potency of your cleanser. I have been putting cleanser directly on my dry skin after hearing this, tho Im not convinced it makes a different. Do u know anything abt this?

  40. Montse Hdz on November 18, 2020 at 9:48 pm

i have not washed my face on the morning for months now and i think it had a positive effect on my skin! 🖤 less is more

Do you use all the products in the 10 step Korean skincare routine? I realized I use all of them except essence and sheet masks. Sometimes I make DIY vegan face masks that are mushy, not sheet masks. I’m Chinese and thought maybe this Korean routine would work well with my skin since it is also Southeast Asian but I never tried it because I can rarely find Korean skincare products where I live.

I am still putting on makeup most days, but not as much as before. It helps me feel awake and productive…and I have tons of zoom meetings every day 😝

  48. Isabel Code.hello50 on November 18, 2020 at 9:58 pm

I also put makeup on 4 to 5 days a week. Like you, I enjoy it, it’s one of my favourite thing to do. And because we’re not going anywhere now it’s the best time to really spend longer playing with it. Thank you for your tips on skincare Kelly. Greetings from the UK
